The Pikaia Lodge concept is designed for the environmentally conscious, physically active and adventurous traveler, who seeks close contact with the unique natural wonders of the Galapagos, with the highest level of comfort and services that can be provided within the limitations of such a remote, restricted and eco-sensitive location.
In contrast to traditional cruises, our land-based day tour programs offer higher comfort, more privacy and personalized attention, a finer gastronomy, a convenient arrival & departure date flexibility, and most important, the possibility to avoid seasickness common to live-aboard yacht cruises.
Due to its central location in the archipelago, Santa Cruz Island has provided us with the perfect opportunity to develop our unique land-based day tour concept. Many of the most interesting islands are nearby, with secluded white sand beaches and fascinating wildlife sites of the Galapagos National Park.
As our Pikaia Lodge guest, you will enjoy active, quality guided land and marine day programs in small groups. At night you will rest in spacious and quiet accommodations. You will also discover some of the finest beaches of the Galapagos on Santa Cruz. Just by taking a stroll, you can come face to face with a wild giant tortoise. Pikaia Lodge has its own private Tortoise Reserve on the property.
Children are welcome in Pikaia Lodge. We have activities for them, too.
Pikaia Lodge is one of the most advanced green lodges built in the world. It operates with alternative energy resources and has a comprehensive social responsibility program.

The earliest risers at the Finch Bay Galápagos Hotel can wade out into the calm waters of the beach and spot yellow warblers darting among the mangroves. With subtle architecture that mimics the surrounding volcanic rocks and attractive wooden walkways leaving the environment undisturbed, the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World hotel has a distinct sense of place.
Our Finch Bay Rooms and Finch Bay Suites offer comfortable interior and exterior spaces that unite guests with the hotel’s natural, peaceful setting. Top Ecuadorian designer Julio Vinueza chose a neutral palette for the Finch’s accommodations, adding black-out curtains, crisp bed linens, and air-conditioning for a good night’s rest.
While staying with us at the Finch Bay in Puerto Ayora… You could read a book by the freshwater swimming pool, or contemplate life among the mangroves… You could feel the rush of adrenalin riding the surf, or the rush of the wind riding a bike downhill towards the shore… You could be amazed with child-like awe at the array of iconic creatures and other-worldly landscapes… You could open up new realms of discovery just by putting your head underwater while snorkelling from our beach or from our private yacht.
- The hotel’s 6 Finch Bay Suites all offer direct ocean views and private balconies with hammocks and furnishings designed to provide you with your own space for appreciating the privileged backdrop, while 21 Finch Bay Rooms afford shared porches or balconies with their own hammocks.
- All rooms and suites have private baths with hot-water showers, hair dryers and other amenities (such as biodegradable soap and shampoo) and all are smoke-free.

Semilla Verde is situated on the fertile slopes of an ancient and extinct volcano in the rural uplands of Santa Cruz Island that itself is located in the heart of the Galapagos Archipelago. The lodge exists in the fresh, humid ‘scalesia’ zone, two hundred plus meters above sea level and 12 km from the dock in Puerto Ayora (12-15 minutes by taxi).
There is considerably more rainfall than the lowlands, hence the abundance of greenery, but offers a fresh respite from the scorching equatorial sun. And, pure pacific rainwater showers! The grounds of Semilla Verde comprise twelve acres (five hectares) of private forest replanted with endemic and native trees, under which organic, shade grown ‘conservation coffee’ is growing. The lodge is nestled within this forest and has balconies and terraces that peer out over the top of it, with majestic, panoramic views to the Galapagos National Park, Galapagos Marine Reserve and outlying islands.
The rooms are big with private bath, incredible views and special charms. The meals we serve are prepared using fresh ingredients and purchased locally when available. We believe that each person has different requirements and nowadays it is mandatory to serve meals prepared individually according to specific tastes. At the same time we believe that the best flavors are achieved by preparing the food in a timely manner and not rushing it. For lunches and dinners we ask for prior notice and a list of restrictions and food preferences. Our guests can notify us in advance if they require lunch or dinner on the day of their arrival. And then, they can let us know in the morning if they want to have lunch or dinner.
Semilla Verde actively embraces and promotes ecologically responsible decision making and a sustainable economic future for Galapagos. Funds raised by our business are routed back into our own conservation effort and the local economy. We justify our own existence through a rational and responsible approach to life that aims to neutralize the detrimental effect of our own activities and redress to some extent the disequilibrium caused by others. Semilla Verde Galapagos has gas heated hot water and 110v electricity. Rainwater is collected via the roof, filtered to provide clean water for taps and showers; Fresh water, purified via UV/Reverse Osmosis, is also available free of charge via a dispenser in the kitchen. Semilla Verde has a negative carbon footprint. That is to say, through our reforestation and coffee plantation projects we absorb more carbon dioxide than we produce. Through the eradication of invasive plant species and the reforestation of redundant farmland we provide a safe refuge for local flora and fauna and create a natural seed bank for further reforestation projects. Our estate is designed in such a way as not to disturb the migration routes of the giant tortoises, and provides a near-natural habitat in which native birds, insects and plants thrive.
